The Leicester Centre for Ethnic Health Research has been successful in putting together a consumer panel made up of members of the local ethnic minority communities to help support the work of the centre. The consumer panel was established to promote public involvement  and participation in the field of research in order to improve the way research is underatken, prioritised and communicated. The first meeting  of the panel members was held in November 2005. The panel meets every 4 - 6 weeks where proffessional speakers are invited to present updates on research in their fields, the panel have seen presentations in the following disease areas which tend to be more prevalent in the black and ethnic minority communities,  Diabetes, Mental Health, Stroke and kidney disease. Members of the panel particuapte in ' Task and Finish Groups' and inform the Consumer panel of activities. The Leicester Centre for Ethnic Health Research has representation at the steering group meetings from the Consumer Panel, to provide the centre with strategic direction and management support
